MISSION & HISTORY.

FemEd is a club started by high-school students in Los Angeles that aims to challenge and address systemic gender inequities within educational institutions nationally by learning and using our platform to make impactful change.

In the Summer of 2021, the founder of FemEd had heard of a school bombing in Afghanistan. She was later informed that the bombing was targeted at young students attending an all-girls and was an attempt at suppressing female education across institutions in Afghanistan. The story shook herself and others, yet inspired her to look into gender inequity experienced by students in school systems internationally. She quickly found that gender bias was seen in educational institutions in her local community, and subsequently launched FemEd in the Fall of 2021. FemEd plans to continue challenging gender inequities nationally for years to come.

At Feminists for Education, we present members with the opportunity to establish relationships with nonprofits across Los Angeles that work to make education more equitable, specifically for girls and non-binary youth. In the past, we have partnered with nonprofits such as Alexandria House, Shero’s Rise, THRIVEfunds, and The Pad Project, among others. We have raised over $3,000 for different nonprofits, started tutoring programs, created a junior facilitator program, hosted a raffle, and drafted an advisory lesson for over 600 students. Throughout the year, we plan on discussing ways that the Marlborough community can play a part in the narrative to combat period stigma, empower students through making products like bras more accessible, and support political candidates who align with our values and mission. We are committed to feminism as an intersectional issue and plan on looking at not only how the status quo impacts girls and non-binary youth in schools, but also students of different races, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, abilities, and religions. We are proud to announce that we have two student chapters, one chapter at Marlborough School and one chapter at Beverly Hills High School. We look forward to expanding into different parts of Los Angeles as we continue to grow as a student organization.

PARTNERSHIPS.

FemEd has partnered with Shero's Rise and the Malala Fund through various enterprises in 2022. As of now, we are working readily with Alexandria House and the Pad Project and hope to continue exploring future endeavors with Shero's Rise. We have promoted Boba Time and Hungry Bunny Virtual Donut Shop through various events, and we are thrilled to have recently hosted an ice cream sale featuring products donated by Madison Brown Ice Cream. Our biggest event to date was our raffle, in which we raised over $900 for The Pad Project. We would like to give a special thanks to Frankies on the Park, The Little Market, and Angel City Football Club for donating prizes to our event! and Look into the specifications of our partnerships via checking out our "Initiatives" page.
